Alexandria Commons Give Back Friday
The holiday season is more than just giving presents—it's about giving back. That spirit of community and generosity was on full display at Alexandria Commons Give Back Friday, held on December 6, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM. Hosted by Alexandria Commons in partnership with Rappaport, the event blended festive fun, creativity, and heartfelt charitable action to bring holiday cheer to attendees.
A Night Full of Festive Cheer 🎄
Despite the chilly 35-degree weather, Alexandria Commons was warmed with smiles, music, and a sense of giving. Guests were greeted by a cheerful VVS team member, who kicked off the vibe with heartfelt welcomes and cups of signature hot cocoa, complete with mini marshmallows, caramel drizzle, and whipped cream—because what’s the holidays without hot chocolate?
DJ Flight set the holiday groove, spinning seasonal classics mixed with Top 40 hits that had toes tapping and spirits lifted. His playlist even inspired a few impromptu dance moments—you simply don’t say no to a good line dance!
Giving Back with Comfort Cases 👜
At the heart of the event was a shared commitment to support local children in transitional housing. Attendees were invited to the "Give Back Corner" to pack Comfort Cases—duffel bags filled with essentials like coloring books, hats, toys, and personal care items. Helping hands of all ages worked together to assemble these thoughtful bags, creating something meaningful for kids in need this holiday season.
One attendee, a local father who stumbled upon the event with his children, shared, “This is such a good idea to give back. I’m glad me and the kids saw this on our way to get pizza. I’ve been trying to teach them more about giving, instead of just receiving.”
Lesson learned. Mission accomplished!
Creativity Unleashed ✨
For those feeling crafty, the DIY station was a hit! With guidance from a VVS elf, attendees got to personalize beanies and pouches with fun patches using iron-on and glue techniques. From trendy designs to funky holiday-themed patches, every creation was a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Even adults got into the action, proving that creativity has no age limit. One participant said, “These Christmas patches are so cool. I can make a bag or hat to match my ugly sweater!”
Attendees proudly left with their custom creations and a newfound sense of accomplishment.
Small Crowd, Big Impact 💝
While attendance was small this year, with five guests (one family and a couple), each person actively participated in every station, making the event feel intimate and meaningful. The DIY crafts and hot cocoa were clear favorites, especially among the kids, who couldn’t get enough marshmallows and patches!
Something to Build On
One of the merchants mentioned they came by expecting Santa Claus, similar to last year’s event. This serves as a helpful reminder for clearer communication and consistency in future promotions. Nevertheless, the guests who attended appreciated the focus on giving back, with one attendee stating, “This is the perfect time of year for this event. I hope the community brings more of these give-back events throughout the year.”
Wrapping It All Up 🎁
The 2024 Alexandria Commons Give Back Friday was a night of warmth, gratitude, and community spirit. From charitable actions to creative fun, the event offered something for everyone while highlighting the importance of generosity during the holidays. Though small in scale, its impact was heartfelt and memorable.
Here’s to more events that unite and uplift our community. See you next year! ✨
